How to create a pre-recorded voicemail

You can easily leave automated voicemails to voters when making calls in Numinar, saving your volunteers time. Our predictive dialer feature handles that for you! Voicemails are added in the project creation step for call projects. Check out the How to create a calling project article to learn more.

🚫Some states don't allow for pre-recorded voicemails unless you've obtained a permit. During call project creation you can check whether or not you have a permit. Check out the FAQ at the end of this article to see a full list of states that do not allow for pre-recorded voicemails.

💡There are 2 ways to create a voicemail: either upload your own audio file or use Numinar's text to speech feature. We highly recommend using a voicemail in your call projects!


Step 1/6: Click on Messages

Note, the file must be in the format of an mp3. You can use a free website to the convert file to an mp3, such as https://cloudconvert.com/mp3-converter.

Do I need a voicemail for my call project?

Yes, you should include a voicemail in the call project unless your state prohibits it.

Does my state allow for pre-recorded voicemails?

The following states do not allow for pre-recorded voicemails to be used: AL, GA, KY, LA, MI, MN, NE, NH, NV, SD, TX, and UT. However, some states do allow automated voicemails after obtaining a permit. Campaigns can indicate that they have successfully obtained a permit and are legally permitted to leave a voicemail by checking the confirmation box during project creation. You should consult the laws and regulations of your state's election commission or secretary of state's office for further information.

How can I test my voicemail?

After you create a project, there is an option to make a test call. That is where you can test out the voicemail but not answering the test call.

Do I need to have the campaign name or organization mentioned in the voicemail?

Yes, you should have name attribution in your recorded voicemail or text to audio voicemail.
