Canvassing is easy with Numinar! First step for creating your canvassing project is to create a canvassing list.

💡You must have a geofence if the number of voters in your list with filters selected is greater than 10,000. You can have up to 10,000 voters in a geofence and as many geofences in a list as you want!

1. Click on Lists

This will take you to our Lists page, the first step in our Project creation workflow (Lists > Messages > Projects).

Click on Lists

2. Click on New List

Enter the List builder by creating a new list.

Click on New List

3. Enter the name of your list

Pro Tip: Be intentional with your naming to help stay organized!

4. Click on Create List

Click on Create List

5. Welcome to the List Builder - begin by selecting Add Filter

Selecting Add Filter allows you to add a single specific filter that can be chained to multiple additional filters using either AND or OR logic.

6. Select the type of filter you would like to use from the Categories panel.

Each of these categories represent various ways that we can filter through the voter file.

7. Select a filter you would like to use for your list from the selected category.

In this example, we have chosen to filter the voter file by Modeled Party.

8. Now, select the desired filter values.

We can now select which types of voters we would like to target. In this example, Selecting 'Strong GOP' would filter the voter file to only display the 99,145 voters that are Strong GOP voters.

Now, select the desired filter values.

9. Select any additional desired filter values.

🧠 This is the final step of building a standard list.

10. We can also add Filter Groups

Filter Groups allow us to group multiple filters together in order to apply different logic methods to a specific group of filters.

11. Now we precede normally in targeting voters by adding a filter.

Please see steps 6-9 to add this additional filter INSIDE of the filter group.

12. Now, we can select Add Filter again to introduce another filter into the same group. We will follow steps 6-9 to add the new filter.

This will allow us to add an additional filter into the same group.

13. This new filter inside the filter group will allow you to utilize OR logic to sort your group.

AND and OR logic allows us to create highly targeted and specific lists so we can speak to only the voters we want to speak to.

16. You will see all of the targeted voters displayed in the banner above your list.

This is the final step of voter targeting and list building. From here you can continue to make a Message and finally combine the message and this list to create a project. The project is what your volunteers will use to contact voters.

For canvassing, you can either automatically cut walk books by precinct or you can create walk books by creating custom geofences. Continue with this tutorial if you would like to create walk books through geofencing.

You will see all of the targeted voters displayed in the banner above your list.

17. Select Map to begin creating your custom geofence.

🚨 Remember, lists with over 10,000 voters MUST have a geofence. Projects created for lists with more than 10,000 voters without a geofence will select 10,000 voters within the associated list at random.

Select Map to begin creating your custom geofence.

18. Zoom into the area you would like to Geofence.

💡 We highly recommend geofencing any canvassing lists. We DO NOT recommend geofencing any calling or texting lists, unless you want to hyper target specific geographical areas for these types of voter contact.
