How to Create a Canvassing Survey

After creating a canvassing list, the next step is creating the survey your volunteers will use at the door.

💡 Every answer a volunteer records is saved to a tag, so you can see results and build new lists from them later.

Step 1: Go to Messages and create a new survey

In the left menu, click Messages (1). Click New Message (2), then choose Survey (3).

Step 2: Name your survey and click Create Survey

Give your survey a name (1). Leave Manual selected (2) to write your questions yourself, then click Create Survey (3).

Step 3: Click Add Question

Click Add Question for each question you want to ask. Your questions show up in order, along with their tag and response options.

Step 4: Write your question, pick a tag, and add responses

Click a question to open it:

  1. Type your question or intro script in the Survey Question box.

  2. Under Tag, choose the tag the answers will be saved to. Each question gets its own tag, so pick one that matches the question. Click New Tag to create one.

  3. Under Responses, type each answer option. Click Add Response to add more.

Step 5 (optional): Turn on Jump Logic or Randomize Order

Click Advanced Options under a question to see more settings:

  • Jump Logic sends the volunteer to a different question depending on the answer. After you turn it on, choose where each response jumps to.

  • Randomize Order shows the response options in a random order.

Step 6: Click Save

Click Save in the top right. Then click Back to return to your messages. Your survey is ready for a canvassing project!

💬 Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I save my survey?

Every question with responses needs a tag. Numinar shows a Missing Tag label on any question that doesn't have one.

Can I show different questions to different voters?
